Meet Jessica

Jessica Yahn has photographed weddings across the Ozarks for more than sixteen years, working for the real expressions and true connections rather than the poses.

Approach

I grew up in the Southwest Missouri countryside and I have been photographing weddings here for over sixteen years. The details get photographed, of course they do. But what I am actually waiting for is the part nobody planned: the look across the aisle, the hand on a back, the laugh that arrives a second after the joke.

Losing my first child, and later my father, changed what I think a photograph is for. I stopped asking whether an image looked good and started asking how it would feel in twenty years, to someone who was there, and to someone who was not. That question is still the one I shoot to. Colour stays true, motion stays in, and very little gets arranged.

Home base is Springfield, and most of the year is spent between here, Branson, Joplin, Kansas City and the Lake. I travel for weddings gladly, whether that means Eureka Springs, Tulsa, or somewhere that needs a passport. As of this year I split my time between Missouri and Hawai'i, which is a sentence I never expected to write.
